What is the difference between noodles from a factory, from small-scale operations and from those that are rolled up at the family table? This is one of the typical questions in the movie “Pasta Connection”, explored by students at the Slow Food University of Gastronomic Sciences. They study the origin and quality of products and document their trips on video. Under the auspices of Michael Ballhaus documentations like this will create a multimedia encyclopedia of food.

Although we know that modern film industry sometimes ticks strangely, we strongly believe in doing whatever we do properly. So we wouldn’t say “great” if it isn’t great. We are honest guys who’ve been taught their profession in those glorious days when people always gave the very best.

• You don’t need a big staff. Well trained people (and these are the only ones we employ) can achieve more, so don’t burden you with 10 sub directors when you only need one who can run the show.

• You do need the right equipment. Don’t let someone talk you into the latest gadget, but also don’t try to save costs on the wrong end.

• You need to invest a reasonable budget. Cheap isn’t chic and will send the motivation of your crew to the depths in a wink. It won’t help with achieving a masterpiece either.

• You don’t have to waste your money. Proper planning is a well-known secret to save costs. Working with professionals like us saves even more. Because we keep an eye on your budget as we are loyal to our clients and do respect you personally.

• Don’t bring in the dancing girls. Yes, we also love to party hard but never do so during an unfinished job. That doesn’t mean you have to live on bread and water when working with us. Peter “nagu” Naguschewski is a great cook himself and loves to care for the troops during a shooting.

• When in Rome do as the Romans do. You need to behave with respect. Especially when working on a foreign location it is our golden rule to respect the locals, their morals and customs and of course the environment. Our excellent reputation makes sure that we can always return. We would never ever leave scorched earth, not even for you and your fat budget.

• Less is more. Believe it or not, but especially when you are struggling with a tight budget don’t overdo things by cramming the whole shebang into your production. We will gladly demonstrate how nice even the simplest solution works out when done properly.

• Ask. It is not disgraceful to admit ignorance. As we have long years of experience in every tiny aspect of our business please consult us whenever you need good advice.

• One captain. Having done so many film productions we know one thing for sure: Too many cooks are likely to spoil the soup. As we are well accustomed with wearing the responsibility hat just trust us in managing your project.We want to make it happen.

So the sh!t has hit the fan?

Well, even as we usually don’t walk over water we will surely provide a lifeboat so that your film production doesn’t get busted. As we have tons of experience with what can go wrong we also know how to fix it. And we have nearly always some ace up our sleeves to turn out things alright again.

We have also spent some time with accompanying big screen productions. Movies we have helped shooting are amongst others “Avalanche Express”, “Assignment: Munich”, “The Pink Panther Strikes Again, “Hopscotch” and “The Prisoner of Zenda”. So we had the great pleasure to work with the likes of Lee Marvin, Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider, Keenan Wynn, Blake Ewards, Peter Sellers, Ronald Neame, Walter Matthau, Glenda Jackson, Richard Quine and many more fantastic film people.

Every production is different. Sometimes you just need a pretty girl and a sunny garden to shoot a commercial that works perfect for launching the very new fragrance from fashion designer XYZ. On the other hand there are productions including helicopters, divers, ski-jumpers, a blue cow and a yellow submarine.

So before we pack our things and get going we have to sit down and talk. About your ideas and how we can put them into effect. A briefing helps of course, but as we have done lots of different jobs since the founding of Film-Service Munich in 1983 you can always count on our expertise. We work with well-rehearsed pros you can depend on.

But as we want to make your vision work we won’t spare you our advice. It’s simply a question of honour, ours just as well as yours. We all know too well: There is no trying! In the end nothing counts but the result. And we feel it has to be as perfect as possible.

As we know the film production business since the early Eighties, we have met and handled all kinds of equipment. We are familiar with each and any film technology available in the market – from classical ARRI cameras to purely digital productions – and we learnt to handle our equipment from the scratch.

We enjoy longstanding contacts with providers all over Europe and often manage some real good deals when renting what ever you need for your production.

But being what are we can’t help to alert you to the basic facts again: Even professional equipment won’t do the job if it’s not handled by a pro. Of course it helps having decent tools, so we don’t mind you spending a proper budget for the technical fixings. We are happy to handle them. Just trust us!
